DFL is a national charity, working for freedom and choice for disabled people and others who use equipment to enhance their independance.
We are the leading UK disability charity providing advice on equipment for independent living.
We provide completely impartial advice and information.
DLF Data
This is at the core of the information services provided by the DLF. Our database is the most extensive resource of disability equipment available in the UK. DLF Data includes over 16,000 products, 2,000 supplier details and over 1,000 self-help groups. The database is available in three formats, paper (known as Hamilton Index), CD-ROM and more recently the internet.
Subscription Service
DLF Data is available as an annual subscription. For the latest prices and content information contact us.
Equipment Centre
The Liz Fanshawe Centre at the DLF permanently displays approximately 900 items of equipment. The range includes electric/manual wheelchairs, scooters, stairlifts, riser-recliner chairs, walking, kitchen, bathing, toileting, manual handling and children’s equipment. Our trained information advisors are available to guide people through the products on display. The equipment can be demonstrated and tried out. Trained staff give impartial advice and help people identify the right equipment. We do not sell equipment, but provide full information on suppliers and prices (please contact the Equipment Centre for further details or to book an appointment).
Telephone Helpline
The DLF runs a national helpline service. We answer around 40,000 enquiries each year. We will either answer your enquiry directly over the phone or send you more detailed information.
Letter Enquiry Service
The DLF runs a letter enquiry service including e-mail, for people who prefer this option. We answer thousands of enquiries on how to get equipment, where to get equipment from, and whether there is equipment available to suit particular needs.
Training and courses
The DLF provides a wide range of training solutions. We also design and run customised courses to meet individual needs. These take place at the DLF’s own training centre, at your offices or training facilities as required. DLF’s fully accessible training and conference facilities are also available for private hire.
Publications
In addition to this Handling People publication, DLF produces a range of publications and fact sheets for disabled people, their families, carers and healthcare professionals. The latest information on all our services and fundraising activities is on our website.
