New Format Show Launches for Professionals Working with Children and Young People Following Demand from 2008 Children’s Centre & Extended School Show
A pioneering new show that brings together the full spectrum of knowledge, best practice and essential guidance for those working with children and young people is launched today.
The Working with Children & Young People Show 2009 will for the first time provide essential guidance to all those who are working to deliver the Government’s “Every Child Matters” agenda locally.
Held at London’s Brompton Hall, Earls Court, on 19 and 20 May 2009, the two-day exhibition builds on the success of its predecessor, the Children’s Centre & Extended School Show, which focused on the Government’s targets of setting up children’s centres and extended schools in every community by 2010. The new Working with Children & Young People Show 2009 will concentrate on the full remit of the Government’s plans to deliver joined-up services for children and young people and is open to anyone working within education, childcare, social work, health care, youth and community work at all practitioner and manager levels. The show’s innovation lies in the fact that for the first time ever in the UK, the new Working with Children & Young People Show will bring together a far wider collective of visitors from different child and youth-related fields than has ever been done previously.
While the 2008 Children’s Centre & Extended Schools show saw record attendance of 1,660 visitors with pre-registrations up by 10% in contrast to last year’s show, organisers are extending next year’s show so that it has the widest remit possible without losing its focus on children and young people. Their creation of the new show is a reflection of the sector’s strong growth and recognition of the fact that there are a huge amount of new developments within the sector.
The show focuses on five interactive workshop streams that will run throughout the event reflecting the key policy areas that local authorities are expected to deliver locally from 2009, namely:
- Play
- Health and Wellbeing
- Positive Activities for Young People
- Children’s Centres and Extended Schools
- Leadership and Collaboration
Just as with the 2008 show, visitors will be able to browse for information from a range of the UK’s top organisations, some of whom will be holding interactive demonstrations on their stands. A series of round-table seminars will also run concurrently throughout the show bringing together central and local government policy makers with senior local authority decision makers.
The Working with Children & Young People Show 2009 will allow visitors to get up to speed on the latest policy developments and to pick up fresh ideas on working with and providing services for children, young people and their families. The show is a must-attend event for all those working in childcare, education, social work, health care, youth and community work.
Ravi Chandiramani, editor of Children & Young People Now, the weekly magazine for the children’s workforce, which has organised the show, says: “In response to the Government’s plans for delivering joined-up services for children, young people and their families, this show will be rich in content for all those working towards that delivery. In bringing together a broader spectrum of professionals, visitors can not only find detailed guidance on their specialist area but also discover how their roles integrate into the wider context of that delivery. However the emphasis is for visitors to gain an understanding of what they can do within their own settings. Whether they are a youth worker, a childminder or residential social worker, there will be something for everybody.”
Tickets to the show cost £10 but admission is free by pre-registering online at www.cypshow.co.uk before 8 May 2009.
