General environment

All are set in wonderful rural locations yet close to the town of Dumfries, which provides excellent recreational facilities for our residents. We also use the scenic surrounding countryside through our “24 hour learning program”.

Here we provide an exceptional “living and learning” educational and social environment, where each young person enjoys the opportunity to develop their potential to the full, through a comprehensive care and educational package, tailored to meet the needs of the individual.

Aims and philosophy

Our vision is to create a happy, safe, nurturing environment, which supports children to become settled to learn and develop their full potential. Closeburn House School aims to meet the full range of needs that individual learners may have in an inclusive and therapeutic environment. This includes their social, emotional and health needs, in addition to learning needs. In order to achieve this, our inclusive approach to learning integrates the skills of both teaching staff and care staff, together with a wider team of partners from the community.

Our aims across our schools are for every child to feel that they belong and are an important part of the school. To provide a well differentiated curriculum that meets the needs of every child. Our primary aim is to provide the best opportunity for personal success for young people who may have social, emotional, behavioural and/or specific complex needs.

We aim to:

• To help develop a child’s independence

• To enable children to become settled to learn

• For all children to feel safe and supported

• To prepare children to cope with transition/change

• To enable children to become settled to learn

• To provide a nurturing environment
