The School pastoral manager leads on home school liaison. We believe it is essential to build effective relationships with parents and carers and believe this is vital to enable our pupils to reach their full potential.

General environment

New Barn School is a purpose-built facility with the interior designed by architects experienced in creating spaces for people on the autism spectrum. The modern building enables us to offer a broad, balanced, engaging and challenging curriculum that will provide the greatest opportunities for successful outcomes for our students.

The main building, which extends across two floors, incorporates six classrooms as well as a science room, food technology room, ICT suite, art studio, drama studio, hall, intervention room, 1:1 room, first-aid room, kitchen, dining room and offices. There is also a sports hall and a separate building for vocational skills (including a music room).

Aims and philosophy

New Barn School is a school for children with autism and associated difficulties. We are committed to creating a learning culture that enables the best possible outcomes for our pupils. The aim of our curriculum is to engage and challenge pupils both academically and socially.

At New Barn, we place a strong emphasis on personal development. We set high expectations of our pupils and believe that by developing self-confidence, self-esteem and independence, pupils will also have high expectations of themselves.

Staff qualification and selection

All our staff are appropriately qualified, professional, caring and dedicated and are trained to work with young people with autism.
